Red Rock Secret Mountain Wilderness

One of America’s masterpiece hiking spots located just east of the Sedona Oak Creek area and south of Flagstaff, Arizona. Over 43,950 acres of pristine water-sculpted red pinnacles. Trails criss-cross everywhere in the Secret Mountain Wilderness revealing deep gorges and spectacular panoramas. Red Mountain is highlighted with high canyon walls and cliffs where you’ll frequently discover rock art petroglyphs and prehistoric abandoned Native American dwellings.

The Red Rock Secret Mountain Wilderness is one of Arizona’s most accessible wilderness areas where you’ll find tranquil solitude among deep canyons and redrock cliffs where wildlife abounds. Here you’ll frequently catch a glimpse of elk, white tail deer and javelina and occasional sightings of mountain lions and black bear.

The Wilderness is home to Bear Mountain Trail, a steep rocky trek with spectacular views of the red rock canyons. The trail is classified as rugged and is rated a strenuous climb of over 1,200 feet of quick elevation change. The scenic West Fork of Oak Creek is within the wilderness area where you’ll experience the beauty of Oak Creek flowing waters, lush vegetation and wildflowers. The changing autumn season brings the blazing colors of Fall. The West Fork of Oak Creek is one of the most photographed spots in Arizona.
